What are the conduit specifications for a fiber drop?
If you would like to install a conduit for the drop to your home, install ½" Schedule 40 PVC conduit, dedicated to the fiber drop. Do not run electrical conductors in the same conduit.
Route: From the building to either of our two entry points - the flowerpot vault or the hand hole in the sidewalk or alley next to your parcel (the boxes marked "FB Fiber"). Use whichever is closest.
Building end: Terminate the conduit at the exterior location where the fiber will enter the home. Cap the end to keep dirt and water out.
Box end: Do not dig up or attempt to connect to the existing conduit stub coming out of our flowerpot or hand hole. Run your conduit out to within 12 inches of where you believe that stub is, then stub up above grade and cap it the same way you finished the building end. On install day, our crew will locate the existing stub and couple the two together.
Bends: Use long-radius sweeps for every change of direction. Minimum 6-inch bend radius. No hard 90° elbows. Fiber does not tolerate tight bends, and a single sharp corner anywhere in the run will cause problems for the install.
Depth: Bury the conduit at least 12 inches below grade. Going deeper is fine;shallower is not.
Pull string: Leave a pull string inside the full length of the run before you cap the ends. We need it to pull the fiber through on install day.
